The present study has the objective of giving an overview of the blockchain technology, its main applications and its relation with digital advertising.
Blockchain is a technology that was firstly applied in finance. The Bitcoin blockchain technology uses a distributed ledger that through a method of consensus enables the transactions between users. This technology ensures security and privacy through the use of cryptography. Ever since its creation Bitcoin has generated a lot of interest and so has its underlying technology; blockchain.
Over the past years the digital advertising industry has grown steadily to become the leading source of advertising revenue. Despite its popularity as a way to distribute ads the industry faces many challenges that restrain participants within this industry to obtain its full benefits.
Nowadays innovative technological solutions are the key drivers for the growth of this industry. New AdTech applications are starting to appear. In this paper we will analyse how the blockchain fits in this industry and the impact it could make.
